Who we are

Elite Finishing Labs is a boutique post-production finishing studio in Burbank's Rancho District, founded and led by Paul Carlin — a senior finishing artist with 35 years of experience and over 140 IMDB credits. During his 15+ years at Company 3, Paul served as senior finishing editor on The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts, Predator: Badlands, Dune: Prophecy, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Spider-Man: No Way Home and dozens more.

He built EFL to bring that same level of precision and craftsmanship to independent films and documentaries — without the corporate pricing structure. At a major facility, you're also paying for client services, parking garages, executive lounges, and layers of overhead that have nothing to do with the quality of your finish. At EFL, you're paying for the artist and the room. That's it.

Full-Service Finishing

We take your locked picture from conform through final delivery. That includes online conform with all opticals, split-screens, and repositions; archival footage restoration using Topaz Video AI; color grading in our SMPTE-certified Dolby Vision suite; and mastering for any destination — Netflix IMF, 2K/4K DCP, or Broadcast SDR. One room, one artist, no handoff confusion.

Conform-Only Option

Already have a colorist or color house you love? We'll deliver a rock-solid, fully locked timeline with every optical, reposition, split-screen, speed ramp, and archival restoration completed — ready for seamless handoff to Picture Shop, Company 3, Light Iron, or wherever you finish color. Your colorist gets a clean, frame-accurate conform with no surprises, and you skip the back-and-forth of trying to coordinate conform and color under one roof when that's not what you need.

The same hands that have finished over 100 features and episodics for every major studio and streaming platform are now focused exclusively on independent productions.

Our color bay is built to SMPTE ST 2086:2018 standards:

• Dolby Vision and DCI P3 reference grading monitor (FSI XMP310)

• Calman Studio HDR/SDR calibration with proper bias lighting

• Neutral walls, MediaLight Mk2 v2 lighting, dedicated sound-baffled room, and Genelec audio monitoring

• Official Dolby Vision Trim license and user certification

We are equipped to master and deliver:

• Dolby Vision HDR (i.e. Netflix IMF, all platforms)

• 2K and 4K Theatrical DCP (encrypted or unencrypted)

• Broadcast and OTT SDR

Archival Footage Restoration

Paul Carlin is widely recognized among documentary filmmakers for his mastery of Topaz Video AI (a licensed user since 2021). With years of daily, production-level use across dozens of projects, he has refined workflows that extract maximum authentic detail and texture from degraded film scans, videotape transfers, and historical sources, while completely avoiding the telltale “plastic” over-processed look that plagues inexperienced AI restoration.

All of the major studios have entrusted Paul with their most sensitive tier 0 projects for over 15 years. We protect yours the same way: hardware firewalls, air-gapped workstations, and battle-tested network security protocols.

We exist to solve finishing problems, not create them. Decades on the most demanding timelines mean we know exactly what can be achieved directly in the conform (using Fusion for split-screens, eye-blink removal, rig/boom/crew/T-mark removal, speed ramps, QC fixes, etc.) and what truly requires a VFX pull. You will always receive an honest, practical assessment of your projects needs, and a willingness to make it work.
